Typesafe Appoints Mark Brewer as Chief Executive Officer

Open Source Technology Veteran Joins Typesafe’s Executive Team To Lead Company’s Modern Approach to Building Applications that Scale

Menlo Park – June 20, 2012 -- Typesafe today announced the appointment of Mark Brewer as Chief Executive Officer. Brewer has also been named to the company's Board of Directors, joining Typesafe’s Chairman and Chief Architect, Martin Odersky, Bill Kaiser, and François Stieger.

“Typesafe is at the forefront of the software application revolution,” said Mark Brewer. “I’m honored to be part of the next-generation of developer technologies for building applications at scale. Since launching just over a year ago, Typesafe has seen remarkable growth and recognition with rapid enterprise adoption of the Scala programming language and Akka middleware. I look forward to continuing that momentum and further expanding the Typesafe ecosystem.”

Brewer most recently served as Vice President of Business Operations for VMware’s Cloud Application Platform, where he helped build out their cloud application platform portfolio. In this role he was responsible for integrating SpringSource’s business and a number of other technology companies, including RabbitMQ, Gemstone and WaveMaker into VMware. Prior to VMware, Brewer was Vice President and General Manager of Enterprise Services at SpringSource, where he was responsible for the packaging and delivery of SpringSource's enterprise (subscription) offerings. Before joining SpringSource, Brewer was Chief Executive Officer of Covalent Technologies. Brewer also participates as Board Member for several open source technology companies, including Stormpath and Lucid Imagination. He holds a Bachelors of Science degree from Western Washington University.

“Mark brings 25 years of executive experience to Typesafe, and is a proven leader with a deep understanding of the Java ecosystem, specifically open source platform technologies,” said Martin Odersky, co-founder, Chairman and Chief Architect at Typesafe. “His strategic and operational insights, combined with a detailed understanding of the open source community make him a valuable asset on our board and leadership team as we look to further expand our enterprise footprint.”

"We are thrilled to welcome Mark Brewer as CEO of Typesafe. His open source expertise and enterprise vision are an ideal match for Typesafe," said Donald Fischer, Principal at Greylock Partners. "We’re eager to work alongside Mark and the founders of Typesafe in taking the company to the next level of growth.”
